AMD tells employees how to vote
According to some at AMD in Austin, the corporation recently sent out an email asking their employees to vote a certain way in the current Austin election. Of course, AMD’s political position is against certain Charter Amendments on the ballot, one of which specifically asks them not to move their headquarters into the Barton Springs watershed.
This contradicts what AMD spokesperson Travis Bullard previously said in the Statesman:
The outcome of the amendment vote will have no effect on the new campus, so the company has not issued an official position on the amendment, he said.
The company has also apparently banned employees from using personal webmail accounts from within the company. A survey from last year found that 63% of large corporations read their employees email. Sounds like AMD is probably no exception. Those pesky free webmail accounts make snooping so much more difficult.
Because of the increased surveillance, it will probably make our job more difficult to get our hands on juicy internal memos since AMD employees now realize they will most likely get caught and punished.
