AMD Lantana Watersheds

September 28th, 2005 — 8:20am

At least one person at AMD seems to still be unclear about the sensitivity of the Lantana tract where AMD is proposing to move. Here is a quote from an AMD employee: “There is a reason why you can’t find a topographical map of watersheds in relation to the lantana sight on MoveAMD.com.”

Well, maybe there isn’t one posted on MoveAMD.com, but we’ve had one posted here twice: on May 5th and May 24th.

The Lantana tract is in the contributing zone, but just upstream from the recharge zone. It is split between two watersheds - Williamson Creek and Barton Creek. When we get heavy rains, the water will flow into these creeks and then all the way through the recharge zone, draining into the aquifer as it crosses. You can see it pretty clearly on this map:

I’m not sure what point this AMD employee is trying to make. There is no doubt that the Lantana area is sensitive and affects Barton Springs. Maybe asking his employer why they fudged the traffic numbers that were supposed to be the basis for this whole move would make more sense.
